David Reed grew up playing in, exploring and riding his bike through the suburban woods of New Jersey. Most of his free time was spent outdoors regardless of the season. He studied Landscape Architecture at Rutgers University, and apprenticed to Master stone masons and carpenters.
In the early Spring of 1974 he set out with two friends to discover what lies beyond the next mountain, photographing and filling seven journals along the way.
Since that time he moved to San Diego, California, founded an award winning Landscape Architecture firm and has been studying, journaling and photographing the natural environment wherever he finds it. He believes that life is “out there”, in the forest, the hills, and on the land, not inside the box.
